If you are searching for places to visit in Karnataka that will make your family vacation a splendid one, head to Pollibetta in Coorg. Located about 130 kilometres from Mysuru, this place is an ideal choice for all the coffee lovers out there. A drive to this location will introduce you to some stunning plantation trails that promise to refresh your spirits.
If you start your road trip to this small village in Kodagu from Bangalore, you will have to take the Bidadi – Mandya route. From Hunsur, drive towards Periyapatna and then deviate to the Siddapur - Gonikoppal road. Once you reach here, the plantation sprawled across this area will guide you to your destination
The coffee estate in Pollibetta is extremely popular for its rich aroma and splendour. Cottages here are built in an old colonial style that will instantly take you back in time. The carefully manicured garden outside adds a pop of colour to this rustic looking property. But what’s even more exciting is that on your visit to this coffee estate, you may spot a few elephants along the way. However, you’re advised to be alert, as they are considered wild and notorious in their approach.
It is believed that a British company known as Pollibetta Coffee Estates Company Limited had started a tea company here in 1943. Later, around 1960, the company sold its shares to the Indian public. Tata Tea Limited acquired the property in 1992, and finally in 2000, renamed the company to Tata Coffee Limited.
While you are here, do not forget to visit some of the pious places to visit around Pollibetta like the Bylakuppe monastery, also known as The Golden Temple, which is located about 45 kilometres away. The huge, astounding golden idols here will definitely leave a lasting impression on you. You must also check out the Elephant Camp at Dubare and Nisargadhama. It is quite packed during the weekends, so you must plan your trip accordingly. But whatever you do, do not skip exploring the coffee plantations at Tata Estate by foot. This truly unique experience makes Pollibetta one of the best lesser known place to visit in Coorg.
