If you want to explore a beautiful place in Maharashtra, look no further than Mahabaleshwar.
If you want to explore a beautiful place in Maharashtra, look no further than Mahabaleshwar. Located in Satara district, Mahabaleshwar enjoys a unique distinction – It used to be the summer capital of the Raj’s Bombay Province. It nestles in the Sahyadri mountain range and enjoys pleasant weather for the most part. It is little wonder, then, that it attracts a multitude of tourists all through the year.
There is lots to see in Mahabaleshwar – the old town, Krishnabai temple, the 3 Monkey Point and Arthur Point, to name a few. If you love the sight of panoramic views and serene lakes, then this hill station should be next on your holiday spot on your list.
When in Mahabaleshwar, do not miss these lakes and waterfalls:
1. Vena Lake: This is perhaps the most popular lake in Mahabaleshwar. Built in 1842 by the King of Satara Shri Appasaheb Maharaj, the lake is amid thick, lush greenery on all sides. Go on a fun boat ride or take your children to the 28-acre amusement park near the lake. There is something for everyone at Vena Lake, whether it is horse-riding or indulging in eating some Around the lake, you can indulge in horse riding or take a bite of the lovely strawberries, mulberries, carrots and corncobs sold in kiosks.
2. Bhilar Waterfall: This is one of the lesser-known attractions of Mahabaleshwar. It is best to visit Bhilar Waterfall during the monsoons to see it at its magnificent best. It cascades from a height of 4,500 feet, and is must-visit for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.
3. Tapola Lake: Known as the ‘Mini Kashmir’ of Mahabaleshwar, Tapola Lake is located 27 km away from the town. This is a perfect spot to add a slightly more adventurous edge to your holiday; Tapola Lake offers canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing opportunities. Many nature camps have also been set up in this area.
4. Dhobi Waterfalls: Located just 3 KM away from the main town, this is one of the most conveniently located tourist points in Mahabaleshwar. It is in the middle of a green valley, and the scenic views makes this an ideal spot for day picnics.
