Often referred to as ‘sonar qila’, Jaisalmer fort is among the largest of its kind. A quarter of the city’s population still resides within, making it one of the last remaining ‘living forts’. Made of yellow sandstone that takes on a lovely golden hue in the sun, the fort has 99 turrets and looks breathtakingly magical at night. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the fort is a beautiful example of Rajasthani architecture. It also houses the famous Laxminath temple within its complex. This distinctive haveli provides a jaw-dropping view of the city. Be sure to include this in your Jaisalmer sightseeing tour if you have the time and enjoy the view of the city from one of its 38 balconies.
