Eravikulam National Park in Kerala has reopened its pristine landscapes to visitors on April 1, marking a new chapter for conservation and tourism in the region.

Located in the Idukki district of Kerala in the Western Ghats, the park was closed temporarily for two months in the wake of the breeding season. Celebrated for its rich biodiversity and the natural habitat of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, it draws nature enthusiasts and researchers from around the globe.

Apart from the Nilgiri Tahr, Eravikulam hosts a variety of flora and fauna, including leopards, Indian muntjacs, sambar deer, and a wide range of bird species. The park is also famed for the blooming of the Neelakurinji flowers, which paint the hills in a vibrant blue once every twelve years, attracting thousands of visitors.

Eravikulam National Park offers much more than just wildlife sightings. In addition to spotting the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, visitors can explore scenic trails, admire mesmerizing waterfalls, and take in breathtaking panoramic views of the landscape.

One of the park’s most iconic attractions is Anamudi Peak, the highest mountain in South India, offering a majestic backdrop to the lush surroundings.

The reopening is expected to boost local tourism and economically lift nearby communities. Park authorities have implemented enhanced safety and conservation protocols to ensure that the wildlife and the natural environment remain undisturbed during the renewed wave of visitors.

A much-loved spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts, the park’s rolling meadows and mist-covered hills create a truly enchanting atmosphere. Guided tours are also available, providing deeper insights into the park’s diverse flora and fauna, making the experience both educational and unforgettable.
