Pune Forest Department launches grassland safari in Boramani village, Solapur.

Grassland safari in Solapur

In a significant move to promote eco-tourism and wildlife conservation, the Pune Forest Department has launched a grassland safari in Boramani village, Solapur. The initiative aims to showcase the rich biodiversity of the region’s grasslands while generating awareness about the fragile ecosystem.

The safari offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore Solapur’s vast grasslands, home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. The region is particularly famous for housing the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard (GIB), along with other species such as Indian jackals, blackbucks, Bengal foxes, and wild boars.

The safari will include guided tours led by trained naturalists who will educate visitors about the significance of grassland ecosystems, their wildlife, and ongoing conservation efforts. The initiative is also expected to provide economic benefits to local communities by creating job opportunities and encouraging eco-friendly tourism-related businesses.

As per reports, the grassland safari operates in two slots: morning (6:30 AM to 10:30 AM) and afternoon (3:30 PM to 6:30 PM). The safari charges range from INR 1,100 to INR 1,500, allowing a limited number of vehicles at a time to ensure minimum disturbance to the ecosystem and wildlife.

Grasslands are often overlooked compared to forests, but they play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance. The safari aims to highlight the importance of grassland conservation while offering an immersive experience for nature enthusiasts, photographers, and researchers.

With this launch, the Pune Forest Department is taking a step towards making Solapur a key eco-tourism destination, ensuring that conservation and tourism go hand in hand. The grassland safari is expected to attract visitors from across the country, boosting awareness and appreciation for India’s lesser-known but vital ecosystems.
