The new electric double-decker buses are launched as part of the city's drive to reduce pollution and modernize urban transit. The launch makes Lucknow one of the few cities in India to offer electric double-decker buses, reflecting an increased emphasis on eco-friendly public infrastructure.
These electric double-decker buses are a part of Lucknow's initiative to reduce emissions and improve urban mobility. Designed to carry around 70 passengers, the buses produce zero-emission and offer comfortable seating and air conditioning. The introduction of these buses is expected to ease traffic congestion on some of Lucknow’s busiest routes.

A major highlight is the fare, which starts at an affordable INR 12, making this service accessible to a wide range of commuters. With fares kept low, the initiative hopes to encourage more people to choose public transportation over personal vehicles, thereby helping to reduce both air pollution and traffic jams in the city. Higher ticket prices apply for longer routes, but overall, the cost remains competitively low for public convenience.
Public reaction to the service has been overwhelmingly positive. Commuters have expressed excitement over the comfort, convenience, and novelty of the double-decker experience. Authorities are also considering expanding the fleet and introducing these buses on additional routes if the response remains favourable. The E-Double-Decker initiative represents a crucial step toward cleaner urban mobility in Lucknow, setting a benchmark for other Indian cities to adopt green public transit solutions.
