Dwarka was the abode of Lord Krishna according to the great epic Mahabharata. Situated on the banks of the Gomti River, Dwarka is a paradise whether you are a pilgrim, a traveler, or a historian. There are many places to see at Dwarka. However, your holiday with your parents and kids is incomplete if you don’t visit the Ancient Dwarkadhish Temple. Also known as the Jagat Mandir, the Dwarkadhish Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna.
According to traditional folklore, the original temple was built over Hari-Griha, the residence of Lord Krishna by his grandson, King Vajranabha. It was destroyed by Mahmud Begada in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries.
The morning aarti at the temple is early at around 6.30 am and the temple remains open to devotees until 1.00 pm. Apart from the aarti, the underwater Puja in Dwarka is a spiritually unique experience that blends ancient traditions with the depths of the Arabian Sea. The underwater ambiance adds a mystical quality to the Puja, creating a profound connection with the divine. This innovative expression of faith symbolizes a deep reverence for Lord Krishna's legendary city, reinforcing the spiritual bond between the devotee and the sacred waters surrounding Dwarka. It transforms the act of worship into a surreal, immersive encounter that resonates with the rich tapestry of Dwarka's religious heritage.
Certain rules need to be followed when you visit the Dwarkadhish temple. Some items such as mobile phones, cameras, etc. are not allowed on the temple premises. We suggest you check for all rules and timings beforehand. Of course, if you are traveling with your parents, make sure you carry additional bottles of water and refreshments.
