Lake Pichola is an artificial freshwater lake, situated in the royal city of Udaipur, Rajasthan. It was laid out in the year 1362 AD and was named after a nearby village called Picholi. The idea was to store water by creating a dam, thereby fulfilling drinking water needs and also helping with irrigation. Not only is this water body ethereal and peaceful, it is also the major source of water for the city. What’s more? A little bridge connects it to Swaroop Sagar lake, making it a serene and picturesque spot for tourists to bask in.
Situated within Lake Pichola are some of the most exquisite and famous places to visit in Rajasthan. In fact, there are a total of 4 islands that grace the lake. Jag Niwas, where the exquisite Lake Palace stands. Jag Mandir, upon which a beautiful palace of the same name was built. Mohan Mandir, from where the King would watch the annual Gangaur festivities with glee. Arsi Vilas, a little island that harbours yet another stunning palace, from where the sunset can be enjoyed.
One of the best things to do in Rajasthan is taking a family trip to the lake. Explore the many artistic feats, admiring the fine craftsmanship. Embrace nature, soaking in the charming ambience.
