National Museum is home to a remarkable collection of items dating back to Thailand’s riveting past. Most of it was built in 1782 as the palace of Rama I's viceroy, Prince Wang Na. Rama V turned it into a museum in 1874, and today there are three permanent exhibitions spread out over several buildings. There is the Gallery of Thai History, the archaeology, and art history wing, and the Bhuddhaisawan (Phutthaisawan) Chapel that together makes the National Museum extremely alluring.
