Ways to Reach Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu & Kashmir can be easily accessed via air, road, and rail, ensuring convenience for travellers from all over India.

Jammu & Kashmir By Air

There are two main airports in Jammu & Kashmir:

  • Jammu Airport
  • Sheikh-Ul-Alam International Airport in Srinagar

Jammu Airport is located just 8 km southwest of the city of Jammu and offers flights operated by major airlines. Sheikh-Ul-Alam International Airport operates flights connecting Srinagar with major cities like Goa, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Jammu.

Jammu & Kashmir By Road

For those who prefer road travel, there is excellent connectivity through national highways in Jammu & Kashmir, which include:

  • NH1
  • NH44

These national highways connect Jammu & Kashmir to major cities in India. Along this route, the Jawahar Tunnel connects Jammu to the beautiful valleys of Kashmir.

Buses operated by the J&K State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) provide regular services connecting Jammu with nearby cities like Patnitop (110 km), Srinagar (264 km), and Amritsar (214 km).

Jammu & Kashmir By Rail

Although there is no railway station in Kashmir, here are the major railway stations located across the region:

  • Jammu Tawi Railway Station
  • Udhampur Railway Station
  • Banihal Railway Station
  • Srinagar Railway Station
  • Baramulla Railway Station

Located approximately 300 km from Srinagar, the railway station in Jammu operates daily trains like New Delhi-Jammu Tawi Rajdhani Express, Jammu Mail, and Jammu Tawi Express.

Travellers can easily reach Jammu by train and then proceed to other parts of Jammu & Kashmir by road.
