Sikkim By Air

Sikkim has one airport that was opened in 2018. The airport in Sikkim is:

  • Pakyong Airport

Sikkim's Pakyong Airport is 31 kilometres south of Gangtok. At 4,646 feet, it is among India's five highest airports. Offering seasonal domestic flights, the airport provides direct connectivity to Gangtok.

Sikkim By Road

The state is well-connected to Siliguri and other nearby cities through:

  • National Highway 10
  • National Highway 31A.

Siliguri is the gateway to Sikkim, and you can easily reach Gangtok by road in around 4-5 hours. Regular bus services, shared taxis, and private vehicles are available from Siliguri to Gangtok.

Sikkim By Rail

While Sikkim doesn't have its own railway station. Travellers can reach the nearby cities of:

  • Jalpaiguri Railway Station, West Bengal
  • Siliguri, Darjeeling district, West Bengal

by train and then continue their journey to explore the beautiful landscapes of Sikkim. It is well-connected with major cities in India and serves as a major transportation hub for travellers heading to Sikkim.

You can hire a taxi or take a private vehicle for your onward journey and enjoy a scenic view to reach Gangtok. The roads offer views of beautiful tea gardens and views of the Teesta River.

It is important to note that certain areas in Sikkim require permits for entry, especially if you are a foreign national or visiting protected areas in North Sikkim. Permits can be obtained from the authorities at various locations, including Indian Missions, Tourism Offices, and checkposts.
